Put a system that's too small in a large enclosure and there may not be enough agent to fully suppress a fire. Put a system that's sized correctly and you have the right coverage for the space. There's no benefit to going significantly larger than needed, but undersizing is a real problem.
This is why we always recommend confirming your enclosure dimensions before ordering rather than guessing based on the generator model alone. Two generators from different manufacturers with similar power output can have very different enclosure sizes. The generator model doesn't tell you the enclosure volume. Your tape measure does.
The Three Measurements You Need
Sizing a BlazeCut system for your generator enclosure requires three numbers: length, width, and height of the interior of the enclosure.
Measure the interior dimensions, not the exterior. The walls of the enclosure take up space and the interior is what matters for calculating the volume the agent needs to fill.
Measure in inches or feet, whichever is more comfortable, and then calculate the cubic footage:
Length x Width x Height = Total cubic inches Divide by 1,728 to convert to cubic feet
Or if you measure in feet directly, length x width x height gives you cubic feet without the conversion.
Write the number down. That's the figure you need to match against system specifications.
What Most Home Standby Generators Actually Measure
Most common home standby generators from manufacturers like Generac, Kohler, and Briggs and Stratton come in enclosures that fall within a fairly predictable size range for residential applications.
A typical 20kW to 22kW standby generator enclosure runs roughly 4 to 5 feet long, 2 feet wide, and 2.5 to 3 feet tall. That puts the interior volume in the range of 20 to 30 cubic feet for most standard residential units.
Larger whole-home generators in the 26kW to 48kW range have bigger enclosures. Some commercial-grade units are larger still.

If your enclosure is on the larger end or you're working with a commercial-grade unit, reach out before ordering. We'd rather take five minutes to confirm the right system than have you install something that isn't sized for your application.

Where to Mount the Tube
Once you have the right system, installation in a generator enclosure is straightforward. The detection tube routes through the interior of the enclosure, ideally positioned to run near the areas of highest fire risk.
In a generator enclosure, those areas are typically near the exhaust components, the fuel system connections, and the electrical panels within the unit. Routing the tube through or near these areas means the system will activate closest to where a fire is most likely to start.
The tube mounts with the included hardware and requires no wiring or external power. Once it's in place and the system is charged, it's ready. There's nothing to program, nothing to connect to the generator's electrical system, and no ongoing maintenance beyond a periodic visual check that the tube is intact and the system is still properly mounted.
