One of the things people like most about the BlazeCut T Series is how simple it is. No wiring, no power supply, no alarm panel to configure. You route the tube through the protected space, secure it, and it is working. The system responds to heat on its own and needs nothing else to do its job.
So when the accessory options come up, the natural question is: if the system already works on its own, what does a beacon or alarm actually add? And do I need one?
The honest answer is that most people with a single enclosed application, a boat engine bay, a 3D printer enclosure, a truck engine compartment, do not strictly need a beacon to get full suppression protection. The tube will detect and discharge on its own regardless. But there are specific situations where adding a beacon or sounder makes a real practical difference, and understanding those situations is what this article is for.
What the Base System Does on Its Own
Before getting into the accessories, it helps to be clear about what the standard T Series tube does without any additional components.
The tube detects heat and discharges FK-5-1-12 suppression agent at the source of the fire. It does this passively, with no power, no wiring, and no connection to anything else. After a discharge, the tube is empty and needs to be replaced. There is no indicator that tells you the system has discharged. There is no alarm. There is no light.
For a lot of applications, that is fine. If your boat engine catches fire while you are aboard, you are going to know about it regardless of whether a beacon flashes. If your 3D printer enclosure fires during a print, the situation will be evident when you check on it. The suppression happened, the fire is out, and the evidence is the discharged tube.
But there are scenarios where not knowing the system has discharged is a real problem. That is where the accessories earn their place.
The Pressure Switch: The Connection Everything Else Runs Through
Before talking about beacons and sounders, you need to understand the pressure switch because it is what makes all of the notification accessories work.
The standard T Series tube (model names without an S at the end, like TR050FK, TR200FK, and so on) has no electrical connection of any kind. It is a completely passive device.
The ES model tubes (TR050FK-S, TR200FK-S, and so on) have an integrated pressure switch built into the tube assembly. When the tube discharges, the drop in internal pressure triggers the pressure switch, which sends an electrical signal to whatever device is connected to it. That signal is what activates a beacon, a sounder, an alarm panel, or an equipment shutdown relay.
If you want any kind of notification when your system discharges, you need an ES model tube. The pressure switch cannot be added to a standard tube after the fact. It has to be ordered as part of the tube assembly.
This is the most important thing to get right before buying: if you want a beacon or alarm, order the ES version of whatever tube size you need.
The Indoor-Outdoor Beacon: What It Does and When It Makes Sense
The beacon is a red xenon strobe light, IP65 rated for outdoor use, that activates when the pressure switch sends its signal. It provides a visible indication that the suppression system has discharged.
No sound. Just a flashing red light.
Here is when a beacon makes a practical difference.
Large or multi-bay facilities. If you are running a workshop, a small manufacturing space, or a garage with multiple machines or vehicles, a beacon mounted in a visible location tells anyone in the space that a suppression event has occurred somewhere in the facility. Without a beacon, someone walking into the space after a discharge might not immediately know what happened or which compartment was involved.
Outdoor and remote applications. For a machine parked outside, a generator enclosure in a remote location, or agricultural equipment that operates in open environments, a visible flashing beacon draws attention to a discharge event that might otherwise go unnoticed until someone physically inspects the equipment.
Unattended operation in a shared space. If your 3D printer runs overnight in a shared shop or studio space where other people are present, a beacon gives anyone in that space an immediate visual cue that something happened, even if they have no context for what the BlazeCut system is or does.
High-noise environments. If a sounder would be pointless because the ambient noise level in the space is too high for an audible alert to be noticed, a beacon gives you a visual channel instead.
The Sounder and Beacon Combined: When You Need Both
The combined sounder and beacon unit provides both an audible alarm and a flashing light when the system discharges. It is IP44 rated, which covers most indoor applications, and is designed for situations where both sound and light are needed to ensure the discharge event is noticed.
This is the right choice when the people who need to know about a discharge event might not be looking at the space where the beacon is mounted. A loud audible alarm is harder to miss than a flashing light in a peripheral location.
Typical applications where the combined unit makes sense include shop environments where someone might be working with their back to the protected machine, facilities with multiple rooms or areas where a visual-only beacon might not be seen from everywhere, and any situation where a discharge needs to alert people to stop what they are doing and check the equipment before continuing.
The Warning Buzzer: A Compact Option for Vehicle Applications
For vehicle applications where mounting a full beacon or sounder is impractical, the warning buzzer is a compact 25mm unit with an LED ring. It is 12V DC, IP54 rated, and designed for fixed and mobile installations. Rated at 80dB at one meter, it is loud enough to be noticed in most vehicle cab environments.
If you have a truck, a UTV, or a boat where you want some form of alert when the suppression system discharges and you are in or near the vehicle, the warning buzzer is the right accessory for that situation. It takes up very little space and mounts easily in a cab or near the helm.
The Alarm Panel: For More Complex Setups
The BlazeCut alarm panel is a small 50mm diameter unit, 9 to 36 volt DC, IP65 rated, CE and EMC tested. It provides OK, FAULT, and FIRE status indicators and is designed for situations where you want continuous monitoring of the suppression system, not just a notification when it fires.
The alarm panel tells you in real time that the system is functioning normally (OK), that something is wrong with the system before any discharge (FAULT), or that the system has activated (FIRE). For permanent installations in critical locations, a workshop that runs unattended regularly, a server room, a charging bay, the alarm panel adds a layer of ongoing system awareness that a beacon alone does not provide.
Putting It Together: Which Configuration Is Right for You
If you want straight suppression with no notification, order a standard T Series tube (no S suffix). The system works completely on its own.
If you want any form of notification at all, whether a beacon, a sounder, a buzzer, or an alarm panel, order an ES model tube. The pressure switch is built in and cannot be added later.
Once you have an ES model tube, the notification accessories connect to the pressure switch signal output. You can run a beacon for visual-only notification, a sounder and beacon for audio-visual, a warning buzzer for a compact vehicle solution, or a full alarm panel for continuous monitoring.
You do not need all of them. Pick the one that fits the scenario. For most single-machine or single-vehicle applications, the beacon or buzzer alone is usually enough. For facilities with multiple protected spaces or unattended critical equipment, the alarm panel gives you more.
FAQ: BlazeCut Accessories
Can I add a beacon to a standard tube I already own? No. The pressure switch that triggers the beacon is integrated into the ES model tubes and cannot be retrofitted to a standard tube. If you want notification accessories, you need to order an ES model tube.
Does the beacon require its own power supply? Yes. The beacon and sounder accessories require an external power supply to operate. The pressure switch provides the trigger signal, but the notification devices themselves need power. Check the specifications for each accessory for voltage requirements.
What is the difference between IP44 and IP65 ratings on the accessories? IP65 means the device is fully dust-tight and protected against water jets from any direction, making it suitable for outdoor use. Can I connect the pressure switch to my machine's control system to trigger a shutdown? Yes. That is one of the intended uses of the ES model pressure switch. The signal output can be connected to a relay or a control input to trigger equipment shutdown at the moment of discharge. This is particularly useful for CNC machines, forklifts, and other equipment where stopping the machine when a fire suppression event occurs is the right response.
Does the alarm panel work with all T Series tubes? The alarm panel is designed for use with ES model tubes that have the integrated pressure switch. It requires the pressure switch signal to detect a discharge event and to monitor the system status.
